It should be easier than it is …

Ensuring you you have adequate travel insurance when motorcycle touring abroad is a must, but you need to be careful to read the fine print to make sure that you are covered on bikes above a certain size (most basic policies cover up to 150-250cc). This page aims to point you in the right direction, but you need to do your own research on individual policies as coverage varies depending on where you live.

The information below is provided by them and to be clear I do receive a commission if you choose to use them (helps me keep the site going), but I would not share this information if I didn’t think you might find it helpful in preparing for your next trip

Motorcycle travel insurance we tend to use

We like World Nomads Travel Insurance and have used them many times in the past (though never yet had to make a claim to be honest).

Note: Coverage varies depending on your country of residence and these guys might not suit all nationalities. If you are from the UK or Ireland particularly they might not be very useful (it may cover for riding a motorcycle, but not if it is your primary method of transportation, ruling most riding out), so please do make sure you check the fine print and if you have any tips of other companies you would like me to check out please contact us.

Navigator Travel Insurance offers motorcycle-specific travel policies that are underwritten by Voyager Insurance. Their policies are NOT to insure your motorcycle and do NOT cover Third Party liability (Personal Liability). These are Travel Insurance policies for bikers, to cover you whilst travelling by motorbike on road, for medical expenses etc. Voyager use
  • Holidaysafe
These guys are not currently offering insurance , but will keep here as they are due to do so again at any point.
  • Voyager
These guys underwrite Navigators policies and used to have a policy that also offered personal liability insurance for when you are on the road, something which local rental operators might not offer. They are not currently offering this product, but are saying it should back soon. From what we can see their regular product is unsuitable.
